A cliff-hanging driving circuit linking Seville's Alcázar, the Moorish fortress perched over Zahara de la Sierra's turquoise reservoir, Ronda's dizzying 120-meter chasm bridge, and Granada's Alhambra foothills.
Depart Seville heading south through the Guadalquivir basin to Arcos de la Frontera, a white town dramatically balanced on a sandstone limestone ridge. Continue climbing through pine forests to Zahara de la Sierra.
Stay two nights near Zahara or Grazalema to explore the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, taking the precipitous mountain pass of Puerto de las Palomas for wide views over the Cádiz province.
Drive east across the Serranía de Ronda. Settle into Ronda for two nights. Cross the monumental 18th-century Puente Nuevo spanning the 120-meter deep El Tajo gorge, and hike the lower canyon trail at sunset when golden light hits the stone arches.
Take a half-day excursion to the troglodyte village of Setenil de las Bodegas, where whitewashed homes are built directly into giant overhangs of prehistoric river canyon rock.
Drive past the surreal karst limestone rock towers of El Torcal de Antequera before descending into the fertile Vega de Granada. Settle in the historic Albayzín quarter facing the snowcapped peaks of the Sierra Nevada.
Spend the final evenings exploring the Nasrid Palaces of the Alhambra and the Generalife gardens before looping back towards Seville.
